Introduction to Film Photography

Re-live the days of photography before memory cards and Photoshop. On this course you load a camera with film then go out and explore the local area. You will then process the film and produce a contact sheet from which to select your best images. Time permitting, you may be able to enlarge a favourite image.

Bring your own film camera if you prefer, or we can provide one (manual or fully auto.) No need for much technical expertise, although a knowledge of exposure – apertures and shutter speeds –  would be useful, but not essential.)

Course content:

  • The film camera – introduction to types and operation (as required.)
  • Processing – chemical mixing, health and safety
  • Assessing your negatives
  • Making a contact print
  • Paper grades – using multigrade filters
  • Producing an enlarged print

Maximum group size will be 3*, ensuring an enjoyable, informal day with individual tuition.

Bring lunch (or visit one of the many Humber Street cafes and bars.) Kitchen facilities, including a microwave are available and tea and coffee are provided.
